Toulouse (Lord Media): Australian airline Qantas Airways has unveiled a new strategy for the world’s longest nonstop flights. The company announced that modern scientific research could make the 20-hour flight more comfortable for passengers. Qantas plans to launch direct flights between Sydney and London next year, with a nonstop service from Sydney to New York to follow. During these flights, passengers will be offered wellness zones, more spacious seats, and advanced lighting systems to reduce jet lag.
Professor Peter Sestoli from the University of Sydney stated that crossing multiple time zones leads to physical fatigue and jet lag. He noted that the journey to London involves crossing seven to nine time zones, while the New York flight crosses 14 to 16. Qantas aims to alleviate the physical and mental discomfort associated with flights lasting 20 to 22 hours.
Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson expressed confidence that passengers would be willing to pay extra for direct flights. The aircraft is designed to accommodate 238 passengers, primarily in premium class seats. A senior official acknowledged operational risks on long routes, but if successful, this plan could revolutionize the aviation industry.
