Seoul (Lord Media): South Korea triumphed over the Czech Republic with a 2-1 victory in the opening match of Group A in the FIFA World Cup. Oh Hyeon-gyu turned the game around with a decisive goal in the 80th minute.
In the early moments, South Korean captain Son Heung-min missed several opportunities, allowing the Czech team to take the lead in the 59th minute. Ladislav Krejci scored with a header from a long throw-in.
Eight minutes later, Hwang In-beom equalized by lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper into the net. The Czech Republic attempted to regain the lead in the 77th minute, but Tomas Soucek’s header was ruled offside.
Shortly after, South Korea launched a counterattack to take the lead when Oh Hyeon-gyu scored from close range after a pass from Hwang In-beom. In Group A, host Mexico leads after defeating South Africa 2-0.
