Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is scheduled to visit China from May 5 to 7 at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to a statement issued by China’s foreign ministry spokesperson.
The announcement, made in Beijing on Monday, stated that China and Bangladesh share a long-standing friendship and are close neighbors with a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
The spokesperson noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations over five decades ago, the two countries have maintained steady progress in bilateral ties based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, mutual respect, and equality.
According to the statement, Beijing attaches high importance to its relationship with Dhaka and views the upcoming visit as an opportunity to further strengthen political trust and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
During the visit, China is expected to engage with the new Bangladeshi government to deepen exchanges, enhance practical cooperation, and advance high-quality Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) collaboration.
The initiative, which is a key component of China’s global infrastructure and connectivity strategy, is expected to remain a central focus of discussions between the two sides.
Officials said the talks aim to further develop the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and promote mutually beneficial development for both countries.
The visit comes amid continued efforts by Beijing to strengthen regional partnerships in South Asia through diplomatic engagement and economic cooperation frameworks.
