China criticized the reported U.S. military blockade of Iranian ports, calling the move “dangerous and irresponsible” and urging restraint to prevent further escalation in the region.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Tuesday made the remarks during a regular press briefing in response to a query regarding reports that U.S. forces had begun blocking shipping traffic in and out of Iran’s ports.
Guo stressed that all parties should adhere to existing ceasefire arrangements and prioritize dialogue. “China urges all sides to stay on the course of peace talks and take practical steps to ease regional tensions,” he said.
He also called for the swift restoration of normal maritime operations through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit route.
The spokesperson’s comments come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region, where any disruption to shipping lanes could have significant implications for global oil markets and trade flows.
China has consistently advocated for diplomatic solutions and stability in the Middle East, warning against actions that could further destabilize the region.
