Chinese official sentenced to death for bribery

Beijing (Lord Media): A Chinese court has sentenced Yang Youlin, a former economic development official from Nanjing, to death for accepting bribes worth 325 million U.S. dollars. The court also found Yang guilty of embezzling public funds, offering bribes, misusing public money, abusing power, and money laundering.

According to the court’s decision, Yang Youlin received large sums of money and valuable assets in exchange for project approvals, business facilitation, land allotment, and investment from 1993 to 2023.

The trial took place in March and April, concluding with the court ordering the confiscation of all of Yang’s personal assets and the recovery of the full amount of the bribes.

The court revealed that the accused admitted his crimes and expressed remorse in his final statement.

This is a significant case of capital punishment for corruption in China. Previously, Lai Xiaomin in 2021 and Li Jianping in 2024 were also sentenced to death for corruption charges.
