Quetta (Lord Media): The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for monsoon rains across various districts in Balochistan, urging the public and travelers to remain alert. Heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected on July 7 and 8, which could benefit agricultural activities but also pose risks of flooding and landslides.
According to the department, rain is expected in Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Naseerabad, and Duki districts, while heavy thunderstorms are anticipated in Harnai, Loralai, Sibi, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Khuzdar, Dera Bugti, and surrounding areas. Some locations may experience torrential downpours.
Officials stated that this monsoon wave will affect most upper and central regions of Balochistan. There is a risk of landslides in hilly areas, water accumulation in low-lying areas, and potential flooding in some streams.
The Meteorological Department has appealed to citizens, especially travelers, to avoid unnecessary travel during the rains. Caution is advised when traveling near mountainous paths and rivers.
Experts suggest these rains could rejuvenate agricultural activities in arid regions. However, there is a risk of damage in areas with old buildings and weak infrastructure.
In light of past experiences, the Meteorological Department has alerted relevant authorities to have rescue teams ready for any emergency situations. The public is advised to avoid open spaces and stay away from electric poles during the rains.
