Jakarta (Lord Media): India and Indonesia have signed an agreement for the supply of the BrahMos cruise missile system. The announcement was made by Indonesia’s presidential palace following a meeting between leaders of the two countries. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Indonesia, where he met with President Prabowo Subianto.
The agreement for the BrahMos missile defense system was signed between BrahMos Aerospace and Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense, though details have not been disclosed. According to a news agency, India will provide Indonesia with the BrahMos cruise missile system along with Astra missiles.
In 2023, BrahMos Aerospace officials stated that discussions were underway for a potential deal valued between 200 mn USD and 350 mn USD with Indonesia. Additionally, a deal has been finalized between Indonesia’s defense company Republic Corp and India’s Bharat Dynamics Limited for air-to-air missiles.
Both countries have also signed memorandums of understanding to strengthen supply chains in key sectors such as minerals, steel, and agriculture. The Steel Authority of India and Indonesia’s Krakatau Steel will jointly establish a venture to produce stainless steel slabs in Indonesia.
President Prabowo Subianto stated that the partnership between the two countries will be beneficial for the region. Narendra Modi mentioned that India and Indonesia will work together to enhance maritime security in the Indian Ocean.
