ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC), on the orders of Islamabad High Court, on Thursday put an end to a fuss and troubles by removing all existing bodies and authorities and starting an inquiry into the wrongdoings in the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council.
Syed Ahmad Iqbal Hussain Deputy Director issued a notification on the orders of the Secretary of the ministry by deputing and authorizing Dr. Muhammad Akram as the Animal Husbandry Commissioner who is also a member of the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) to decide day-to-day affairs of the council.
According to the notification, the Animal Husbandry Commissioner shall be responsible for replacing the signature of the President PVMC where applicable and to sign the bank cheques as co-signatory for payments of salaries of serving employees of the PVMC including payment of utility bills, etc.
The ministry has also decided that nobody other than the Animal Husbandry Commissioner shall exercise any powers of any office of PVMC during the continuity of the instant arrangement.
The ministry has also formed an Inquiry Committee under the chairmanship of the Additional Secretary, Ministry of IPC, including the CF & AO and Senior Joint Secretary of the ministry. According to the notification, the committee will thrash out all the matters relating to allegations of misconduct, embezzlement, and corruption by the officials of PVMC including criminal acts of forcibly trying to occupy the offices along with criminals. The committee, if required, can associate FIA, NAB, Police & IB for assistance in investigations. The committee will further recommend appropriate action according to law and a way forward to resolve the issues.
The ministry took action after the Islamabad High Court on Feb. 29, 2024, passed an order with great concern that litigation had been initiated by the various officials of the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) against each other by leveling serious allegations of corruption, misconduct and criminal acts of forcibly trying to occupy the offices along with criminals. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court directed the Secretary, Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination to thrash out all the matters and decide regarding the day-to-day affairs of the council adding that the Secretary can associate the F.I.A., NAB, and Police or Intelligence Bureau (I.B.) for the purpose.
