ICC announces iconic performances in men’s T20 World Cup history

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released a list of iconic performances in men’s T20 World Cup history, recognizing standout contributions from players across different editions of the tournament.

Former Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi was included for his remarkable 2009 T20 World Cup performance. In the semi-final, Afridi scored 51 runs and took two key wickets, while in the final against Sri Lanka, he contributed 54 runs to help Pakistan clinch the championship.

Other performances named as iconic include Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in six balls during the 2007 inaugural T20 World Cup, Mike Hussey’s 60 runs off 24 balls against Pakistan in 2010, and Sunil Narine’s three wickets for just nine runs in 2012.

Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath took five wickets in the 2014 semi-final, while Carlos Brathwaite hit four consecutive sixes off Ben Stokes in the 2016 final. Mitchell Marsh’s 77 runs in the 2021 final, Ben Stokes’ 52 runs against Pakistan in 2022, and Virat Kohli’s 76-run innings in the 2024 final were also included in the ICC’s list of iconic T20 World Cup moments.

The ICC said the selections highlight performances that left a lasting impact on the tournament and are celebrated for their skill, timing, and influence on match outcomes.
