Lausanne (Lord Media): The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced a temporary lifting of the suspension on the Russian Olympic Committee, effective from October 2023. The IOC stated that the Russian Olympic Committee has recognized the independent status of organizations in Ukrainian-controlled territories.
The decision paves the way for Russian athletes to return for the qualifying phase of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, although stringent anti-doping conditions will remain in place. Before their return, Russian athletes must undergo multiple doping tests and participate in the International Testing Agency’s monitoring program.
According to the IOC, its stance against Russia’s attack on Ukraine has not changed, and solidarity with Ukraine will continue. The Olympic Committee noted that decisions regarding hosting international competitions in Russia, as well as the use of the Russian flag and national anthem, will be made by the relevant global federations.
The IOC further stated that the activities of the Russian Olympic Committee will be continuously monitored, and any violations could lead to renewed action.
