PM to attend World Economic Forum, Gaza meetings in Riyadh

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Participate in World Economic Forum Summit in Riyadh, Highlight Pakistan’s Global Priorities.

As top Arab and European diplomats prepare to convene in Riyadh for an economic summit and discussions on Gaza, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to join a special session on “Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development.”

Scheduled for April 28 and 29, the special meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) will see Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, traveling to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and WEF Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab, as confirmed by Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch on Friday.

The prime minister’s participation in the WEF summit aims to underscore Pakistan’s priorities in global health architecture, inclusive growth, regional collaboration, and the crucial balance between growth and energy consumption. It also presents an opportunity for interaction with world leaders and heads of international organizations.

Furthermore, a dedicated session on Gaza in Riyadh on Monday will feature discussions with key figures including newly appointed Palestinian PM Mohammed Mustafa, Egyptian PM Mostafa Madbouly, and Sigrid Kaag, the United Nations aid coordinator for the Gaza Strip.

The summit will also witness the presence of foreign diplomats, including the Turkish, Jordanian, and Egyptian foreign ministers, as well as French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, engaging in talks on Gaza.

Following these engagements, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will proceed to attend the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference in Gambia on May 4 and 5, focusing on “Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development.” This follows Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s participation in the preparatory meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers on May 2-3.

During these conferences, the prime minister will address Pakistan’s grave concerns regarding the situation in Gaza, advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people, emphasize the importance of solidarity, and engage in discussions on pressing global issues such as Islamophobia, terrorism, and challenges faced by the Muslim world. Additionally, bilateral meetings with leaders from the Muslim world are also on the agenda.
