Sri Lankan batsman Viran Chamoditha set a new record for the highest individual score in the history of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, smashing 192 runs against Japan.
Chamoditha played a stunning innings off 143 balls at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Saturday, hitting 26 fours and a six. His innings surpassed the previous record of 191 runs set by fellow Sri Lankan Hasith Boyagoda against Kenya in 2018.
During the innings, Chamoditha and his opening partner Dimantha Mahavitana put together a 328-run partnership, marking the highest stand for any wicket in Under-19 World Cup history.
Thanks to this record-breaking opening stand, Sri Lanka posted a massive total of 387 runs against Japan. In reply, Japan managed only 184 runs for eight wickets in their 50 overs, giving Sri Lanka a comprehensive 203-run victory.
