Surgeons in Vietnam were left astounded by a rare and bizarre occurrence when a patient arrived at a hospital in Quang Ninh province, writhing in agony due to severe abdominal pain, as reported by Metro UK.
Upon conducting ultrasound and X-ray examinations, doctors made a startling discovery – the presence of a mysterious living organism within the patient’s body. Though they couldn’t initially discern its identity, they observed punctures in the organ, leading to inflammation and excruciating discomfort. With no time to spare, medical experts swiftly proceeded with surgery on the 34-year-old.
What they unearthed inside was both shocking and perplexing – a 30cm-long eel, a slender and elongated fish, had taken residence within the patient’s abdomen. With meticulous precision, the surgeons successfully extracted the eel, offering relief to the suffering individual.
The circumstances surrounding how the eel ended up inside the patient remained shrouded in mystery. However, medical professionals speculated that it entered through the anus, traversing the intestine before settling in the abdomen.
In a statement echoing their astonishment, Dr. Pham Manh Hung remarked, “This is a rare case. The rectum, being a site abundant with fecal matter, is particularly susceptible to infection.” The fact that the eel was found alive upon removal only added to the perplexity of the situation.
