KP Assembly rejects reports on new members’ privileges

Peshawar (Lord Media): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has labeled media reports regarding members’ privileges and facilities as misleading. A spokesperson stated that the facilities of blue passports and weapon licenses are already available to assembly members.

The spokesperson clarified that the existing privileges and powers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly are outlined in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly (Members’ Privileges) Act, 1988. Recent amendments have further clarified these provisions.

No new facility regarding blue passports has been introduced. Recommendations have been sent to the federal government under the agenda of the Speakers’ Conference to align passport laws with those of the National Assembly and Senate.

Regarding weapon licenses, the existing legal requirements have been clarified. The facility of four weapon licenses has been available under the 1988 law.

The statement emphasized that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will continue to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities with transparency and constitutional supremacy. The media is urged to prioritize fact-based information.
