At least 12 people were killed and more than 27 others injured in a suicide bombing outside the G-11 Islamabad courthouse today.
Initial reports indicate that the attack targeted civilians and security personnel gathered near the court premises.
According to police sources, the attacker attempted to enter the courthouse but detonated near a police vehicle when access was blocked. Forensic teams were called to the scene to investigate. Among the injured are three police officers.
Emergency services, including Rescue 1122 and hospital ambulances, immediately transported the wounded to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where emergency measures were declared. Dr. Mubashir Daha, spokesperson for PIMS, confirmed that 30 people were receiving treatment and that all available medical resources were being utilized under the guidance of Dr. Imran Sikandar.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who visited the scene, stated that evidence links the attack to Afghan-based elements and warned that Islamabad will take action if cross-border support for terrorists continues. He confirmed the explosion occurred at 12:39 PM and emphasized that the attacker had planned to enter the courthouse but detonated outside.
Naqvi drew parallels to a similar incident in Wana yesterday, in which a vehicle-borne attacker targeted a security checkpoint. He stressed that the government is fully aware of activities across the border but will ensure no compromise on security. Authorities are working to identify all individuals involved in the attack.
The President of the District Bar Association strongly condemned the bombing, calling for accountability for both the perpetrators and lapses in courthouse security. He announced that a complete judicial boycott would be observed tomorrow in protest.
