ISLAMABAD: The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has strongly refuted claims made in a recent article published by The Guardian newspaper.
In a statement issued on Monday, the embassy spokesperson dismissed the article’s alleged quotation of a Chinese diplomat as “completely untrue” and lacking credibility, while criticizing the rhetoric and perceived bias in the report.
The spokesperson accused the article’s author of fabricating information without conducting a formal interview or seeking prior consent, labeling it a breach of journalistic ethics and a disregard for mutual understanding.
In response to the allegations, the embassy highlighted China’s tangible contributions to Balochistan’s development, showcasing the close collaboration between the two countries under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Over the past year, several key initiatives and projects have been completed in the region:
Talking about the Chinese efforts last year, the statement added that China provided 100,000 U.S. dollars in emergency cash assistance for disaster relief efforts, delivered 10,000 solar lighting equipment sets in remote areas, completed and handed over the Gwadar China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital and the Gwadar Desalination Plant.
The embassy spokesperson added that China hosted a media delegation from Balochistan for a visit to China, distributed 20,000 health kits across the province, completed construction of the new Gwadar International Airport, facilitated visits to China for delegations from Gwadar, recognized and awarded outstanding Pakistani staff working on CPEC projects, including those based in Balochistan.
“These initiatives underscore China’s unwavering commitment to the development and prosperity of Balochistan,” the spokesperson said.
The embassy also announced the upcoming distribution of ‘Chinese Ambassador Scholarships’ to students from Balochistan University, Sardar Bahadur Khan University, and Gwadar University. This initiative aims to provide educational opportunities and foster talent development in the province.
The spokesperson reiterated China’s confidence in the development of Gwadar and Balochistan, expressing hope that the ongoing China-Pakistan practical cooperation and livelihood projects will continue to bring tangible benefits to local communities.
“These achievements highlight China’s determination to support the people of Balochistan and contribute to the region’s progress,” the spokesperson stated, emphasizing the enduring partnership between the two nations.
The embassy’s statement reaffirms China’s commitment to fostering mutual development, countering misinformation, and strengthening the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China.
