Iran curbs riots, vandalism after arresting over 200 organizers

Iran’s authorities said on Saturday night that the situation across the country is relatively getting normal after the arrest of over 200 organizers of riots and vandalism during the last couple of days.

Sources told LORD that terrorists are involved in the unrest adding that the government would safeguard the governing system.

Iran’s capital Tehran is significantly less tense than it was over the past 48 hours. While limited gatherings have been observed in north-western areas of Tehran, the rest of the city remains largely calm. Overall, the situation is noticeably more peaceful, with minimal incidents of vandalism reported.

US media, citing government sources, reported that American intelligence agencies assess the ongoing protests in Iran as lacking the momentum necessary to pose a serious challenge to the country’s stability.

Sources from Tehran told LORD that more than 200 protest organisers have been identified and arrested, while security forces have confiscated large quantities of weapons, ammunition, grenades and Molotov cocktails from their hideouts.

On Friday, the United States reiterated its warning that the killing of protesters would trigger a military response. Iran, however, accused Washington of fomenting unrest, saying the US had transformed peaceful demonstrations into what it described as “violent subversive acts and widespread vandalism.”
