Yasin Malik’s wife appeals to Rahul Gandhi over inhumane prison conditions, calls for Parliament discussion

ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Hussein Mullick, wife of Kashmiri leader Mohammad Yasin Malik has penned an impassioned appeal to Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, urging him to raise her husband’s case in parliament.

Malik’s wife calls on Rahul Gandhi to initiate a parliamentary debate about Malik’s right to fair treatment and adequate healthcare, warning that disregarding these rights could undermine public faith in the Indian government’s integrity and adherence to justice.

Malik, the head of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), has been in prison on sedition charges dating back over three decades, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has requested the death penalty. He recently initiated a hunger strike to protest what his wife described as “inhumane” treatment, which she claims includes being denied the right to choose his medical treatment.

The letter recounts Malik’s shift to nonviolence in 1994 following assurances from Indian officials and diplomats from the United States, Britain, and European Union, which encouraged him to abandon armed struggle.

Citing testimonials from well-known Indian figures, Malik’s wife argues that he remained committed to peace and nonviolent advocacy, engaging in talks with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to support peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

She asserted that Malik’s current treatment is a betrayal of the pledges made by Indian representatives, especially in the context of the post-2019 revocation of Article 370.

Mushaal said since 2019 i.e in the aftermath of revocation of Article 370, Yasin is being victimized by the BJP government in all unimaginable ways.

Mushaal urged Rahul to use his high moral and political influence in the Parliament and to initiate a debate in the case of Yasin Malik, who could become an instrument for bringing organic and not cosmetic peace back to Jammu & Kashmir.
