NAB weighs new legal interpretation on corruption cases

Islamabad (Lord Media): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is contemplating a new legal interpretation to prevent a large number of corruption cases from being dismissed. This move is part of an adjustment to NAB’s financial jurisdiction in line with inflation.

According to the proposal under consideration by NAB, the financial threshold, which has increased from 500 million rupees to 800 million rupees, will also apply to the financial loss suffered by the affected party. This proposal is likely to be presented at the Executive Board meeting.

NAB sources indicate that under this proposal, the current value of alleged financial losses will be redefined according to an inflation formula, allowing cases to fall back within NAB’s jurisdiction.

Legal experts suggest that if this proposal is challenged, it could undergo judicial review. NAB’s top leadership is currently deliberating on this proposal.
