The UN resolution, calling for a Special Envoy to combat Islamophobia, stands in stark contrast to India’s current trajectory.
As India approaches elections, the situation for Muslims is likely to worsen. Prime Minister Modi seeks a third term, relying heavily on a divisive Hindutva ideology. This approach has replaced harmonious traditions with violence, weaponizing religious chants and normalizing state apathy.
Under Mr. Modi’s rule, societal polarization has become a dangerous pattern. Atrocities against Muslims are escalating with alarming frequency, coinciding with the BJP’s intensified electoral campaign. The socioeconomic conditions of Muslims further deteriorate, fueling mass dehumanization and exclusion of India’s largest minority. Mr. Modi’s past actions and current policies of suppression and indifference paint a clear picture: absolute isolation of minorities.
While the BJP may bank on its majoritarian vote base, every incident of communal violence remains a state failure. India urgently needs strong institutions that foster justice through inclusive participation. Indians must recognize the dangers of eroding their cherished diversity. Slogans of a “Hindu rashtra” disguised as bravery are nothing but poison for social harmony.
