Karachi faces 88 million gallon water shortfall amid power outages

The Karachi Water Corporation has reported a severe drop in water supply in November due to ongoing electricity outages, resulting in a total shortfall of 88 million gallons of water across the city.

According to the corporation, the Dhabiji pumping station experienced 132 hours and 20 minutes of power suspension, causing a loss of 42 million gallons, while the Damloti station faced 146 hours of electricity cuts, leading to a shortfall of 111 million gallons.

The North East Karachi pumping station recorded a reduction of 335 million gallons, and the Hub and Pipri stations saw losses of 6.6 million gallons. Additionally, the Gharo pumping station faced a deficit of 2 million gallons.

The Water Corporation spokesperson said that repeated outages disrupted operations at central pumping stations for several hours and stressed the need for a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply to ensure continuous water delivery.

Officials also warned that frequent cable faults are damaging pumping machinery, calling for serious attention to prevent long-term infrastructure damage.
