Dar reaches Beijing for strategic dialogue with Chinese FM

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Beijing on Monday to co-chair the 5th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, announced the Foreign Office (FO).
Upon his arrival, Dar was warmly received by Ambassador Wang Fu Kang and Pakistan’s envoy to China Dr Khalil Hashmi, the FO reported on X.
During the strategic dialogue, Dar, along with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, will discuss various aspects of Pakistan-China relations, covering economic and trade cooperation, high-level exchanges, and the upgradation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and future connectivity initiatives.
Additionally, Dar is scheduled to hold meetings with Chinese leaders, senior officials, and prominent business enterprises to bolster bilateral ties and explore avenues for further collaboration.
According to a press release issued earlier by the FO, Dar’s visit to China spans four days, from May 13 to May 16. The visit aims to comprehensively review bilateral affairs, including economic and trade cooperation, high-level exchanges, and regional geopolitical dynamics.
Highlighting the significance of the visit, the FO emphasized that it underscores the mutual commitment of Pakistan and China to deepen their ‘All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership’ and reinforce joint efforts towards regional peace and development.
This visit marks Dar’s first trip to Beijing since the PML-N-led government assumed power after the February 8 general elections. It follows Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s recent visit to China, which aimed to engage existing investors, tap into new opportunities in the transmission and distribution network, and advance CPEC’s second phase.
Earlier interactions between Dar and Zheng Jianbang, the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, underscored both nations’ determination to enhance and upgrade cooperation on CPEC projects.
