Pakistani PM promises close cooperation with China’s Shanghai Electric

ISLAMABAD: A delegation headed by Mr. Wu Lei, chairman of Shanghai Electric Group, met with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday, according to a statement from the PM Office.

In the meeting, the prime minister were briefed about various projects of Shanghai Electric in Pakistan. During the meeting, the prime minister said Pakistan wants to further promote friendly relations and economic cooperation with China

The prime minister said there would be no compromise over the security of the Chinese working in Pakistan.

Sharif reiterated his determination to further promote friendly relations and economic cooperation with Pakistan. The friendship between Pakistan and China is deeper than the oceans and higher than the Himalayas.

The prime minister advised that Chinese companies should shift domestic power plants from imported coal to coal and invest more in coal mining projects, adding that the country will provide all government to Chinese investors to expand existing projects.

The delegation gave a presentation of various projects to the prime minister and said Shanghai Electric Group is working on the Thatta Coal Mine Development and 1320 MW Coal Power Project in Pakistan.

The meeting was informed that Shanghai Electric Group is one of the largest companies in Pakistan working under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and that with its projects Pakistan is saving 400 million U.S. dollars in foreign exchange.
