GADANI (Lord Media): Ship recycling operations have resumed at Pakistan’s Gadani shipyard after an eight-year hiatus, with seven ships now anchored for recycling. This revival has been made possible through the efforts of the Maritime Task Force, NLC, and other institutions.<\/p>\n
Reforms are underway to align the ship recycling industry with international standards, and the federal government has granted it formal industrial status. Out of Gadani’s 16 ship recycling yards, 9 have been upgraded according to the Hong Kong Convention, while the remaining 7 are under inspection.<\/p>\n
The government plans to establish modern treatment, storage, and disposal facilities in Gadani to ensure the protection of the coastal environment and marine life.<\/p>\n
Each recycled ship is expected to contribute approximately 25 million U.S. dollars to the national economy, and once fully operational, Gadani will meet 30% of the country’s steel scrap needs.<\/p>\n
