LAHORE (Lord Media): The historic Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi in Lahore\u2019s Qainchi Chowk, Amar Sidhu area, has been handed over to the Sikh community after being restored under a project aimed at rehabilitating sacred Sikh sites and gurdwaras across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
According to reports, the local admini-stration and police cleared the gurd-wara of alleged illegal occupants and formally handed it over to the Sikh community. The religious site wit-nessed Sikh prayers for the first time since the creation of Pakistan, after a gap of 77 years.<\/p>\n
During a special ceremony, the Sikh sangat recited Sri Guru Granth Sahib and held spiritual gatherings featuring Gurbani and Naam Simran. Members of the community described the occa-sion as a historic and emotional mo-ment.<\/p>\n
Sikh leader Dr Gulab Singh appreci-ated the efforts of the local administra-tion, police, Evacuee Trust Property Board Additional Secretary Nasir Mushtaq and Punjab Minister for Mi-nority Affairs and Human Rights Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora for help-ing restore the gurdwara.<\/p>\n
He said the revival of the historic place of worship was a significant step for the Sikh community and appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure complete restoration and renovation of the gurdwara to pre-serve the religious heritage for future generations.<\/p>\n
Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, who is also chairman of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, said work was underway to make around 50 more gurdwaras functional across Pakistan. He added that renovation and restoration work on 17 gurdwaras had already begun in the first phase.<\/p>\n
He said Pakistan was the first home of the Sikh community and efforts were being made to preserve its religious heritage.<\/p>\n
According to historical accounts, sixth Sikh Guru Guru Hargobind Sahib vis-ited the site in 1619, while the gurd-wara was later constructed by Maha-raja Ranjit Singh. In 1922, Sir Ganga Ram expanded and renovated the building. The gurdwara remained inac-tive for decades after the creation of Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
