Peshawar (Lord Media): PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Ikhtiar Wali has condemned the recently passed Privilege Amendment Act by the provincial assembly, labeling it as an attack on press freedom and democratic values. He claimed the law aims to stifle journalists’ voices and restrict assembly reporting to government approval.<\/p>\n
In a press conference, Ikhtiar Wali accused the provincial government of introducing laws to curb dissenting voices and independent journalism. He alleged that special exemptions are being provided for actions against government members.<\/p>\n
He stated that under the new law, motions, questions, or other proceedings presented in the assembly cannot be broadcast or published until the Speaker presents them.<\/p>\n
Ikhtiar Wali also expressed concern over the state of education and health sectors in the province. He claimed that Gomal University is facing an administrative crisis, while the University of Peshawar is struggling with financial difficulties.<\/p>\n
He remarked that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is focused on superficial measures rather than addressing public issues, with illegal mining, drug trade, and corruption allegedly receiving official patronage.<\/p>\n
He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Privilege Amendment Act passed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, warning that its effects will be difficult to reverse otherwise.<\/p>\n
