Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday held high-level discussions in Islamabad, focusing on the country\u2019s macroeconomic outlook, fiscal strategy, and ongoing reform agenda aimed at stabilising the economy and supporting long-term growth.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb briefed the visiting IMF Mission, led by Mission Chief Iva Petrova, on recent economic developments, preparations for the upcoming federal budget, and measures being taken to strengthen fiscal and external sustainability.<\/p>\n
According to the Finance Division, both sides exchanged views on maintaining reform momentum, improving macroeconomic stability, and advancing structural changes intended to boost investment, productivity, and export-led growth. The discussions also covered Pakistan\u2019s broader policy framework aimed at reducing vulnerability to cyclical economic pressures.<\/p>\n
Aurangzeb highlighted encouraging trends in remittances and exports, noting improvements in performance on both monthly and yearly bases. He said these indicators reflected gradual strengthening in macroeconomic fundamentals and improving resilience in the external sector.<\/p>\n
The minister, however, acknowledged that structural challenges persist, particularly external financing pressures and the need to accelerate sustainable, export-oriented growth. He reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to deepening reforms, including productivity enhancement, deregulation, and measures to improve competitiveness.<\/p>\n
He further said the reform programme had been developed in consultation with international experts and was part of a broader economic transformation strategy intended to move Pakistan away from recurring boom-and-bust cycles.<\/p>\n
Aurangzeb also briefed the IMF Mission on ongoing engagement with international development partners, including cooperation initiatives with China and efforts to mobilise long-term investment aligned with national economic priorities.<\/p>\n
The IMF delegation appreciated Pakistan\u2019s progress in maintaining macroeconomic stability amid a challenging global environment. It underscored the importance of sustaining fiscal discipline and continuing structural reforms to support durable and inclusive growth.<\/p>\n
The Mission reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement with Pakistan in support of its reform programme and long-term economic resilience.<\/p>\n
