Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry has said that the United States\u2019 response to Tehran\u2019s 14-point peace proposal is \u201cdifficult to assess,\u201d citing what it described as Washington\u2019s history of shifting positions and unrealistic demands.<\/p>\n
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told his weekly press briefing in Tehran that Iran had received the U.S. response through Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator in ongoing diplomatic contacts between the two sides.<\/p>\n
However, he declined to disclose details of the message, saying Iran was dealing with a counterpart that frequently changes its stance, making diplomatic progress complicated.<\/p>\n
Baghaei reiterated that Iran\u2019s position remains focused on negotiations related strictly to ending conflict-related hostilities, while rejecting discussions on other issues, including its nuclear programme.<\/p>\n
He also responded to remarks attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz, dismissing them as politically motivated and rejecting the framing of such statements as humanitarian gestures.<\/p>\n
The Iranian spokesperson further argued that international shipping routes were safe prior to recent escalations and blamed instability in the region on military actions attributed to the United States and Israel.<\/p>\n
He called on the international community to hold Washington and Tel Aviv accountable for what he described as deliberate destabilisation of regional waterways.<\/p>\n
According to the report, tensions escalated after a series of military strikes in February, followed by retaliatory actions and restrictions affecting maritime movement in key strategic areas. A ceasefire reportedly came into effect on 8 April, after which indirect diplomatic engagement continued.<\/p>\n
Iran submitted its 14-point proposal to the United States on 30 April through Pakistani mediation, followed by talks in Islamabad that ended without agreement.<\/p>\n
