The federal government has imposed a ban on the import of goods produced through forced labour in countries where such practices are identified, while also making it mandatory for importers to provide relevant documentary proof or certification.<\/p>\n
In this regard, the federal government has issued a formal notification, introducing amendments to the Import Policy Order 2022.<\/p>\n
Exercising the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, 1950, the government has inserted a new sub-paragraph (3) after sub-paragraph (2) in paragraph 7 of the Import Policy Order 2022. The amendment prohibits the import of goods from countries or entities where such products are manufactured or produced wholly or partially through forced labour.<\/p>\n
According to the notification, the International Labour Organization (ILO) may from time to time issue lists of prohibited goods, entities, and countries falling under forced labour concerns, which will guide the enforcement of the ban.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, importers bringing goods from such countries will be required to submit valid documentation or certification confirming that the imported products have not been manufactured or produced through forced labour practices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
