China has urged the international community to intensify coordinated efforts to prevent the ongoing Middle East conflict from further destabilising Syria, warning that spillover effects are worsening the country\u2019s already fragile security situation.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, China\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong said escalating tensions in the region are creating \u201cnew complexities\u201d for Syria and increasing the risk of wider instability.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the Middle East stands at a critical juncture, where it could either move toward war or peace, and called on all parties to exercise restraint and pursue political and diplomatic solutions to achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.<\/p>\n
Fu Cong emphasised that Syria\u2019s political future must be shaped through an inclusive, Syrian-led and Syrian-owned process, urging all domestic stakeholders to engage in broad political dialogue to promote reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n
He further stated that the rights and interests of all communities in Syria must be protected and warned against the recurrence of large-scale violence.<\/p>\n
Highlighting counterterrorism as a key priority, the Chinese envoy said eliminating terrorist groups is essential for restoring stability, while cautioning against the use of \u201cdouble standards\u201d in global counterterrorism efforts. He also urged Syria\u2019s transitional authorities to act against all UN-designated terrorist organisations.<\/p>\n
On regional security, Fu reiterated that respect for Syria\u2019s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity is fundamental. He called for an immediate halt to Israeli military operations in the separation zone and strikes in southern Syria, saying such actions violate international law and the 1974 disengagement agreement.<\/p>\n
