Multiple Chinese scientific organizations have jointly issued an initiative urging the establishment of an open, fair, inclusive and effective global framework for artificial intelligence (AI) governance.<\/p>\n
According to the statement released on Monday, 16 academic societies under the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), covering fields such as automation, electronics, computer science and AI, collectively published the Initiative of the Global Science and Technology Society on AI Governance.<\/p>\n
The document emphasizes that AI development should prioritize human well-being as its core objective, while maintaining security as a fundamental requirement for both research and governance frameworks.<\/p>\n
It also highlights fairness and balanced development, stressing that all countries must have equal participation in AI research and governance mechanisms. The initiative explicitly rejects what it describes as \u201ctechnological hegemony,\u201d academic barriers, exclusive blocs, and monopolistic practices in the technology sector.<\/p>\n
The statement further calls for improved public understanding of AI\u2019s developmental stages and associated risks, recommending broader science communication and public engagement through diverse platforms.<\/p>\n
Given the cross-border nature of AI, the initiative urges stronger international academic cooperation and expanded collaboration among scientific societies, promoting what it describes as \u201cAI for good\u201d and a shared global future.<\/p>\n
A researcher cited in the report, Liang Zheng, said China has consistently emphasized both development and security in global AI governance, adding that scientific institutions have a responsibility to help build consensus and provide governance solutions.<\/p>\n
