Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s commitment to supporting individuals with autism, as the country joined the international community in observing World Autism Awareness Day.<\/p>\n
In a message issued by the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, Shehbaz said the day serves as a reminder of the need to promote awareness about autism and to ensure the protection of rights, access to education, and social inclusion of affected individuals. Observed annually on April 2 under a United Nations-designated framework, this year\u2019s theme, \u201cAutism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value,\u201d underscores the importance of recognizing the inherent worth of every individual.<\/p>\n
The prime minister noted that autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges in social interaction, communication, and language. He stressed that individuals with autism require greater understanding, acceptance, and equal opportunities to enable their full participation in society.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the government\u2019s priorities, Shehbaz said the provision of proper care, education, and training for children with special needs remains a key responsibility. He added that the government is committed to utilizing all available resources to enhance the capabilities of such individuals and integrate them as productive members of society.<\/p>\n
In this regard, he referred to the foundation stone laid in December 2025 for a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence for Autism, equipped with modern training and educational facilities, which is expected to be completed within a year. Provincial governments are also undertaking initiatives aimed at early diagnosis, improved care, education, and skills development for individuals with autism, he added.<\/p>\n
The prime minister emphasized that supporting children with special abilities and ensuring their mental, physical, and educational development is a collective responsibility. He called for greater participation from private institutions and civil society to promote inclusive environments and ensure meaningful social integration of persons with autism.<\/p>\n
Acknowledging the contributions of parents, teachers, and caregivers, Shehbaz paid tribute to their dedication and compassion in serving individuals with autism, noting that their efforts reflect a deep commitment to humanity.<\/p>\n
