Senior journalist Dr Furqan Rao has been elected as the general secretary of the National Press Club Islamabad, becoming the first PhD holder to achieve the position at any press club in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Rao, who holds a doctorate in journalism and communication from Tsinghua University, is regarded as one of the few Pakistani journalists combining advanced academic research with extensive professional reporting experience.<\/p>\n
His election is being seen by many journalists as a significant development in the leadership of press bodies in the country.<\/p>\n
Dr Rao also served as Director International and Diplomatic Affairs in state news agency Associated Press of Pakistan. He had the honour to establish first Chinese Language service in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Before his election to the press club office, Dr Rao also served as head of the China Desk at the Associated Press of Pakistan, where he covered developments related to Pakistan\u2013China relations and international affairs.<\/p>\n
Members of the journalist community said his victory reflects growing support for professionalization and institutional reform within press organizations. Observers noted that journalists increasingly seek leadership capable of addressing challenges posed by digital transformation, evolving international media standards and the need for stronger institutional support for reporters.<\/p>\n
