Shanghai, one of China\u2019s major economic hubs, welcomed a record 9.36 million inbound visitors in 2025, marking a nearly 40 percent year-on-year increase, local authorities reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism said the city attracted 7.14 million foreign tourists last year, posting an almost 50 percent rise compared to 2024, setting a new high in annual foreign arrivals.<\/p>\n
South Korea remained the top source of international visitors, sending approximately 909,000 tourists to Shanghai, a growth of over 103 percent year on year.<\/p>\n
Other countries showing significant increases included Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, and Italy, each recording more than 50 percent growth in tourist arrivals, aided in part by China\u2019s visa facilitation policies.<\/p>\n
