China has called on the United States to stop using the so-called \u201cChina threat\u201d as a justification for pursuing its own interests in the Greenland issue, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun, speaking at a regular press briefing, emphasized that the international order is based on international law and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, which must be upheld.<\/p>\n
Guo\u2019s remarks came in response to U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s recent announcement that Washington plans to impose a 10 percent tariff on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1, citing the Greenland matter. The tariff would increase to 25 percent from June if the United States and Denmark do not reach a deal for the potential U.S. purchase of Greenland.<\/p>\n
