The White House described the move as targeting organizations that \u201cno longer serve American interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response, the UN chief expressed regret over the U.S. decision. The spokesperson read a statement noting that contributions to the UN regular and peacekeeping budgets are legal obligations under the UN Charter for all member states, including the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The statement emphasized that all UN entities will continue implementing their mandates as determined by member states. \u201cThe United Nations has a responsibility to deliver for those who depend on us.
