Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, he emphasized that misinformation threatening national security or public order will not be tolerated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose sitting abroad, spreading fake news through social media thinking they are safe, should know this will not be allowed,\u201d Naqvi said. He added that social media platforms often carry up to 90 percent incorrect news, and unchecked circulation of such content cannot continue.<\/p>\n<p>The minister clarified that while freedom of expression is protected, it does not extend to disseminating false information. \u201cJournalists spreading fake news are not practicing journalism. National media operates under regulations, and channels airing incorrect news are penalized by PEMRA. The same standards will apply to social media,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Naqvi also highlighted that misinformation targeting individuals or institutions, or claims undermining Pakistan\u2019s national security, would be dealt with decisively. \u201cNo compromise will be made on national security. Anyone with evidence of wrongdoing should present it.
