Pakistan has been re-elected to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for the 2026\u20132028 term, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The election took place during the 30th session of the OPCW Conference held from November 24 to 28 in The Hague.<\/p>\n
The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), with 193 member states, is regarded as the world\u2019s most successful arms control treaty, having led to the elimination of an entire category of chemical weapons. The OPCW Executive Council serves as the organization\u2019s principal policymaking body, overseeing effective implementation and compliance with the convention.<\/p>\n
Pakistan has been an active OPCW member since ratifying the CWC in 1997, consistently contributing to the convention\u2019s objectives.
