Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Monday criticized the government\u2019s internet restrictions and slowdowns, calling them a \u201cattempt to control and censor\u201d the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoads, highways, and motorways used to be our infrastructure,\u201d he said while addressing the graduation ceremony of Sindh University in Jamshoro.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s our bandwidth, our fiber optic cable, and our wireless internet services in this day and age,\u201d he said, referring to the importance of the internet.<\/p>\n
He added there have been attempts in the past to control and restrict people, just as there are now.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis demonstrates your strength and their fear of you since they do not want you to use the internet to exercise your rights.\u201d<\/p>\n
The latest criticism comes as the PPP has increased pressure on the federal government, over nationwide internet restrictions.<\/p>\n
Bilawal previously criticized the government for restricting internet speed and shutting down VPNs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe haven\u2019t been contacted about the VPN cutoff or the slowing down of internet speed, \u201che recently stated, adding: \u201cThe decision makers are unaware of the ABC of VPN.\u201d<\/p>\n
He stated that new regulations should be explained if the government was consulted on the VPN.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the age of internet speed,\u201d Bilawal stated.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government claimed to be offering 4G service to the public, but the internet speed is brittle; it appears that only 3G internet service is being offered.\u201d He also mentioned that the speed of the internet has slowed.<\/p>\n
Bilawal highlighted in his speech today that young people must stand up for their rights and voice their aspirations.<\/p>\n
He declared, \u201cWe will have to raise awareness and fight for our rights.\u201d \u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cHistory demonstrates how the state takes away people\u2019s rights when they are granted.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the PPP chairman, a \u201cdigital bill of rights\u201d is necessary, and the country\u2019s students and youth must collaborate to draft it.<\/p>\n
